PRESSEMEDDELELSE

This year’s programme consists of a unique selection of indie gems that touch upon various themes. Personal dilemmas, social issues and relationship challenges are brought to the epicentre through powerful storytelling.

Upcoming cinematographers and independent filmmakers share their amazing stories, highlighting the power of independent cinema.

The 7th Annual Aarhus Film Festival opens with Mahdi Fleifel’s multi-awarded drama-thriller ‘To a Land Unknown’. Following the lives of two Palestinian refugees living in modern-day Athens, the critically acclaimed film is about displacement, the struggles and challenges of exile and the need for survival in a society that makes no sense.

On the second programme, five short films by upcoming cinematographers celebrate the art of short filmmaking and put new talents in the spotlight. Through both comedies and dramas, this programme navigates the challenges of love relationships, family bonds and friendships.

‘Belinda’ by the Danish director Maureen Payne-Hahner, ‘The Easy Way’ by Luca Senoner and Martin Loos and Alice Hjorth’s Ecocide are some of the short films of the Annual Aarhus Film Festival 2025.
